Increased Cerebral Blood Flow

One of Ritalin’s mechanisms of action is to increase blood flow in that area.  Reduced blood flow is directly correlated with reduced cognitive functioning and is found in individuals with ADHD and related cognition problems.  The increase in norepinephrine and serotonin and the decrease in melatonin (creates sleep onset) combine to increase levels of alertness and well-being.
